- A.Mover 5 yearsThe movie has some differences compared to how the book plays out. In the book everything leads up to the main events at the end, you slowly work up to those events. However, in the movie everything moves quicker it isn’t as suspenseful and just throws everything at you in the beginning. In the book you have the idea that Jonas and Lily are of a younger age but, in the movie Jonas looks like an adult and Lily looks older than twelve. Not to mention the movie changes some more details that are in the book. Receivers are supposed to have light eyes as it said in the book but in the movie Jonas has brown eyes. It’s a little detail but they could have put the effort in that and make the actor put on contacts. The ost sounds good it can add more suspense for some people . The setting in the movie is nice.I recommend you read the book first then the movie or else you wouldn’t understand somethings that happen. I give the movie five out of Ten popcorns. I didn’t that they changed the books and they moved to fast in Some points it was inaccurate Jeff Bridges Taylor Swift Brenton Thwaites Odeya Rush The Giver 2014
- M.Dover 5 yearsIf you like unique movies, this movie is for you! The movie follows Jonas on his journey through his perfect world, where no choices are made. After Jonas gets the most important role in his community, Jonas's perspective on life changes completely. The setting and special effects make the movie so enjoyable and so realistic. I really recommend watching this movie. I would personally watch the movie first before reading the book, so you won’t be bothered by the differences. I would definitely give this movie 5 stars, despite the differences from the book to the movie. The Giver, an hour and forty minutes PG-13 movie directed by Phillip Noyce. Main actors include Jeff Bridges(The Giver), Taylor Swift(Rosemary), Brenton Thwaites(Jonas), Meryl Streep(Chief Elder), Odeya Rush(Fiona), and Cameron Monaghan(Asher).
- JPover 5 yearsThe Giver movie is a lot different then the book. In the book it says that Jonas sister is turning 8 in the book but in the movie she is turning 9. The movie goes by a different direction then the book does because the beginning is different and because something happens to Jonas. I recommend that you should reed the book first and then watch the movie. What I didn’t liked about the movie was that they were to dramatic in some parts and what I liked about the movie was that they used black and white for the movie. But yes I do recommend to watch the movie after you read the book.
- A.Rover 5 yearsWatching The Giver was like the book coming to life. Even though there was many differences between the book and the movie. I would say the movie was very interesting and enjoyable. My favorite part was when I saw how the community worked and how it is different from what we are used too. There was a lot of intensity and Plot twisting events in the movie. The characters in the movie were very interesting. They all had different characteristics but the way they were expected to love made them the same. I would recommend this movie to you.
- J.L.Qover 5 yearsThe movie is nothing like the book The Giver. I would recommend you read the book and skip the movie. The movie is completely different to the book from the beginning to the end. The movie had a different beginning and the climax was also changed. The movie would get 2 popcorn from me because the director changed the movie way too much and he should have stayed with what happened in the actual book.
- S.Rover 5 yearsI didn’t really like the Giver movie because there were a lot of scenes in the movie that were not there and everything went by so fast. For example they didn’t include the part were Jonas gave memories to Gabe when they were cold and became warm but overall I did not like the movie.
- GG over 5 yearsIf you enjoy movies with thrill and suspense, this movie is for you. The story builds up very fast, unlike in the book. I don’t mind the movie I just don’t like how some details don’t match up with the details in the book. My favorite scene was the one with Rosemary because it adds lots of detail and importance to the movie. The filming was very shaky but it’s like that so it’ll add effect. I would recommend this movie if you haven’t read the book yet, otherwise I wouldn’t recommend it.
- Calysta Mover 5 yearsI think that this movie was very interesting sort of like the book. But there were some differences that you can see some similarities that you can recognize. In the beginning of the movie import events add happened in the beginning very fast. The movie is a little confusing like the book. This difference that was between the book and the movie was the ages, how the community had been designed, how a person becomes a receiver, and how they get their injections everyday. You’re off the whole movie I thought that was very interesting and it had many details that were related to the book and some that were not but I found it as a good movie.
- A.E.Dover 5 yearsThe giver in my opinion was a good book. Although it had many things that were not in the book. It was a good movie and I would recommend it. The intro to the giver movie was not like the book. It had some differences but it was still a good movie. The giver was a very fascinating movie it was an attention grabber. The giver was able to build up the suspense. I would have never expected the ending which was great!
- JJBover 5 yearsMovies made about books are usually based off of the book, but this movie was very loosely made from the book and didn’t include a lot of information that was given in the book, which is why I didn’t like it. The movie left out so much information and rushed the storytelling about Jonas and his realization of the world around him. Jonas is the main protagonist, and he lives in a seemingly perfect community without pain or suffering, and he soon receives a role in that community as a receiver in the Ceremony of Twelves, and as he does his job with the Giver, he starts obtaining and realizing many emotions that have been banished from his community, pain, war, but also happiness and love. He wants to share these emotions, but the elders who are in charge of his community are always watching his every move, so they soon find out what he has been up to, and they want to get rid of him, but in the process, Jonas and the Giver came up with a plan to release all those emotions to the people of their community by crossing the Boundary of Memory. As Jonas carries out the plan, he is being followed by one of the pilots that has been sent to exterminate him, but the pilot loses him, and Jonas crosses the Boundary of Memory and releases the emotions back to his people. The storytelling process was obviously rushed, the movie left out key components that only the book tells us about, there was supposed to be a pilot landing a plane, and Jonas feels apprehensive and nervous throughout the whole book until he is given the memories the Giver gives him. All that was left out in the movie, it never really got in depth with Jonas’ emotions, which left out a lot of insight into Jonas’ perspectives, and we never really knew what he was thinking at a moment in the movie, but in the book, there is much more detail to Jonas feels and how he perceives everything. Which is why I don’t like this movie. I do not recommend this movie, the book is way better than the movie and goes into more detail about everything and takes its time with the storytelling and the transformation of Jonas throughout the story. The movie on the other hand doesn’t, everything is rushed and it leaves anyone who hasn’t read the book puzzled and confused with so many unanswered questions that were supposed to be answered, but weren’t. All in all, this movie wasn’t a total failure, it still included the very tip of the iceberg and the very basic plots that were set in the book, so I give this movie 2 stars out of 5.
