Quite personally, I thought the book was AWESOME! I hated some of the blabbering and lines until the juicy stuff came along. I thought it was pretty sad at the beginning when “Pap” got attacked by an alligator. And it was quite shocking to find out that Tim wasn’t a boy. Knowing all this time from the beginning. The best and most exciting part came when in Shenandoah Valley the battle broke out. Yanks vs Rebs. There were some pretty funny moments in the book. Like when Thrasher ends up eating a whiskey watermelon. I thought that part was pretty amusing. I really thought this one was a good one. Most fictional Civil War books I read are from the point of view from Union, but this one I like because it’s unique and different from most. It gives us a point of view from the Confederates. And so, I think that is interesting. If I were to rate this book from 1 to 10, I’d say a solid 9 and a ½. As the book had exciting and funny and interesting parts for the most part. And all the talking and conversations were interesting but they were probably in the least. If I could recommend this book to anybody, it would probably have to be people interested in the civil war or wondering about it. Because this book is quite the interesting one. A view from the opposing side. The confederates (if that’s your point of view.). Or people who own a confederate flag or have southern heritage. Because they could feel how this kid could feel. This book was REALLY good. And I think it’s definitely worth a read.Over 7 years agosheanuggets89 added a book review.

All in all, Undying Glory by Clinton Cox is a very good book. My rating is a solid 9/10, and here’s why. Undying Glory tells the story the Massachusetts 54th Regiment, the first troop of African American soldiers. First thing’s first, this book tells the story of the 54th perfectly. Being a nonfiction story told by Clinton long after the events happened, the wording makes it seem like the story is told from the point of view of an immediate bystander. Emotion is used perfectly and captures the devastating nature of war. When a character (Whom I will not name because it would spoil the book) dies in the war, it is horrifying because Clinton got the reader so connected with the character. Why was it a nine out of ten instead of a ten? Although being a very powerful story, the story is a little bit hard to follow. Due to the very advanced language of the book, some plot details seem a little bit confusing. I recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a factual, intense, and powerful story of war. I do not recommend this book for anyone younger than 9, or the faint of heart.Over 7 years agoreeahe1617 added a book review.

I recommend this book for teens, it has a lot of big words kids wouldn’t understand. I enjoyed it, it had a good plot but the conflict was a bit strange for a book about war. It has some sad moments but it turned into a happy ending.Over 7 years agoalexhod1617 has read this book.
